Virginia was born October 25, 1931 in Gainesville to Cecil and Odessa M. (Hensley) Roberts. She graduated Gainesville Memorial High School in 1948 and attended Texas Tech University. In 1949, Virginia married Robert J. Archer, Sr. in Vernon. She attended business college in Wichita Falls while Mr. Archer was employed by Sherwin-Williams Co. Later she was employed by Wichita National Bank.

After moving to Dallas in 1959, she was involved in PTAs in Lake Highlands schools with her children, Lee Archer Small and Jud Archer, and was honored as a Lifetime Member in PTA. The family was actively involved for 25 years at Northway Christian Church, where she served on the Board as a Deacon and an Elder, while chairing several committees, as well as being active in youth work and Christian Women’s Fellowship.

In 1985, Mr. and Mrs. Archer moved to Lake Kiowa following Bob’s retirement from Sherwin-Williams to open their own retail business in Gainesville. They became active in civic affairs including the Chamber of Commerce, Revitalization, Merchant’s Association, Soroptimist, and Home Hospice of Cooke County. After retiring from retail, Mrs. Archer continued to serve on many boards including Butterfield Stage, Home Hospice, and First Christian Church. For many years, her dedication was to the board of Juliette Fowler Homes in Dallas. The love she felt for the residents there, as well as her co-workers, always had a special place in her heart.

Survivors include: daughter Patricia Lee Small of Fort Worth; son Jud Archer and wife Paula of Frisco; grandchildren: Erin Ellis, Jake Small, Robert Archer, and Christina Archer; and great-grandchildren: Hayli Archer and Zoë Ellis.

Mrs. Archer was preceded in death by her parents; husband Bob Archer; and brothers: Graham Roberts and Bud Roberts.
