Charles Edward Akin

Charles Edward Akin, son of the late Guy and Ramah Lee Akin,passed away on April 3, 2012 in Gainesville, Texas. Charles was born and raised at the crossroadsin Floyd, Arkansas,where he never met a stranger.



Charles played on several semi-pro baseball teams during the1950s and enjoyed keeping up with baseball his entire life. He was a veteran, baptist and worked as a pipefitterand welder at various companies in Texasuntil his retirement.



Charles was married to Bettye Frances (Mott) Akin, the loveof his life, for 41 years.. He issurvived by two sons, Randall Lee Akin and his wife Robin of Houston, andRonald Edward Akin of Denton. Charles is also survived by a sister, BettyJean Hill, and a niece, JeanBeth Hill,both of Little Rock, Arkansas.



The family would like to express their gratitude andappreciation to Rev. Bob Carlock and his wife Eloise and Jeanne Schneiderjanwho were Charles’s special friends and caregivers for many years. We also wish to thank all of the many friendswho supported Charles through the years, either in person or by telephone.



The family willreceive friends on Wednesday, April 4, 2012 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Geo. J.Carroll and Son Funeral Home in Gainesville. A graveside service to celebrate Charles’life will be held on April 5, at 2 p.m. at Fairview Cemetery with the Reverend Bob Carlock officating under the direction of the Geo. J. Carroll and Son funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributionsmay be made to the charity of your choice and you may sign the online registryat geojcarroll.com
