Eddie Lee Rucker, age 50, of Gainesville, TX, went to be with His Savior on August 24, 2021 in Gainesville, Texas. He was born June 7, 1971 in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma to Charlie Rucker and Marlene (Stults) Rucker. Eddie grew up in Sulphur, OK and graduated from Sulphur High School in 1989. On August 18, 2001 Eddie married the love of his life Bonnie Rebekah Brooks in Dexter, Cooke County, Texas. Eddie and Bonnie made their home in Gainesville. Early in his career, Eddie worked for the Oklahoma Department of Developmental Disabilities in Pauls Valley. Upon moving to Texas, in 2002, Eddie started his career at the Denton County Sheriff’s Department. At DCSD, Eddie held the positions of Detention Officer, Detention Corporal, and Chaplain. Additionally, Eddie was a graduate of the very first Denton County Peace Officer Academy.
On April 15, 2014 Eddie and Bonnie’s lives changed forever as they welcomed their children Shawn Douglas, Makenzie Marie, and Jesse Wayne into their home. Then, on November 10, 2014 Shawn, Makenzie and Jesse were officially adopted as Rucker’s.
Outside of his home and work, Eddie was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church of Gainesville, Texas where he served as a Deacon of the Church and was Ordained into the Gospel Ministry. Eddie devoted his life to serving others through law enforcement and ministry. Eddie was also an avid Oklahoma Sooners fan and could be found either watching or attending Sooner games every time possible and had developed a hobby of collecting sports memorabilia. Eddie’s faith, his wife and children, his extended family, service and sacrifice to others, and his Sooners were everything to him.
Eddie is survived by his wife, Bonnie; son, Shawn; daughter Makenzie; and son, Jesse of the home. His brother, Donnie Moler of Sulphur, Oklahoma; brother, Ronnie Moler and wife, Wendy of Wynnewood, Oklahoma; sister, Connie Bardol and husband, Sheldon of Farmers Branch, Texas; brother, Bobby Rucker and wife, Ginny of Sulphur, Oklahoma; and brother, Darrell Rucker and wife, Christina of Sherman, Texas. Father-in-law and mother-in-law, John and Beth Brooks of Woodbine, Texas; brother-in-law, Greg Brooks and wife, Kenna of Marlow, Oklahoma; and brother-in-law, Mark Brooks and wife, Juliann of Nacogdoches, Texas. Nieces and nephews: D.J., Michael, Graycyn, Madacyn, Gavin, Olivia, Kaylee, Chloe, Cooper, and Emmarie.
Eddie was preceded in death by his father, Charlie Rucker and mother Marlene Rucker.
Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, August 27, 2021 at The First Baptist Church, Gainesville, TX. Visitation will be Thursday, August 26, 2021 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home in Gainesville, TX. Interment is immediately following services Friday at Nelson Grove Cemetery, Woodbine, TX. Arrangements are under the care of Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home.
