Audrey Elizabeth King died peacefully on January 9, 2011 at Applegarth Care Home in England.
Audrey was born May 28, 1913 in the county of Middlesex, England and as a child, lived with her mother at Heston, Middlesex, whilst her father was serving in France during World War I. When her father returned home after the war, the family moved to Ealing, west of London. There she lived and worked, meeting and marring Arthur Charles King in 1936.
Their only child Michael was born in 1938, but World War II brought separation due to the blitz on London as mother and son were evacuated to Buckinghamshire. The end of the war brought better days however and happy family times resumed.
In 1957, the family moved further west of London to Staines, and again in 1980 to Windsor. During all these years Audrey was devoted to her husband and son and drew great pleasure from her role as homemaker and caring for her ageing mother. Audrey was a great dog lover, being very fond of animals in general, and also loved the countryside. She also enjoyed travelling on vacation throughout the British Isles and together with Arthur also visited many European countries. They also enjoyed holidays in Africa and Australia.
To her great joy she became a grandmother in 1967 and much of her time was then devoted to her grand-daughter and various tasks for local charities. She was widowed in 1994, living alone at Windsor until 2006 when her failing health necessitated a move into residential care. Life had one more great joy in store for her though as she became a great-grandmother at the age of ninety-four and was able to enjoy visits from both of her great-grandchildren.
Audrey was preceded in death by her beloved husband Arthur in December 1994 and daughter in law Anne in April 1988. She is survived by her son Michael, daughter in law Patricia Dill King of Gainesville, grand-daughter Fiona Ryan and her husband Daniel of Ealing, London together with her great grand-children Darcey and Arthur. Other family members surviving Audrey are Gary and Gina Dill and their children Jacob, Joan, and Jamie and Jack Davis of Gainesville plus Scott Dill, Pam Wright, Jeremy and Zachary Dill of Carrollton. One of Audrey’s many happy memories was that of Meeting Gary, Gina, Jacob and Jamie when they visited London in the summer of 1994.
