Charlene Mary Ann Deen Shasteen
Born October 20, 1934, in Gainesville, Texas
Died February 22, 2011, Presbyterian Hospital, Denton, Texas at the age of 76.
Charlene was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Glen Shasteen, her father and mother, Charles Deen and Elsie Marie Luttmer Deen Graham, stepfather Clarence (Buster) Graham, sister Brenda Graham Mages and brother Ronnie Graham.
She is survived by five children: Sharon Godoy and Steven Shasteen of Gainesville, Texas , Carol Pitchford (husband, Greg Pitchford) of Oak Point, Texas, Robert “Bob”Shasteen (wife, Elaine Shasteen) of Spring, Texas and Susan Shasteen of Denton, Texas.
She is survived by five grandchildren, Michael Thomas of Gainesville, Stephanie Shasteen of Denver, Colorado, Jonathan Shasteen of Spring, Texas, Phillip Shasteen of Dallas, Texas, Gregory Pitchford of Oak Point, Texas and two great grandchildren.
Charlene is survived by two brothers, Ray Graham, Gary Graham, and three sisters, Sheila Graham Hussein, Rita Graham Greer and Virginia Graham Capps. She is also survived by her aunt, Irene Luttmer Sicking of Myra, Texas.
Charlene was a lifelong resident of Gainesville and Cooke County, Texas. She graduated salutatorian from Saint Mary's Catholic High School in Gainesville, Texas. She met and married her husband and started their family raising them in the Catholic faith. She was a wife, mother and homemaker, a lifetime member of Saint Mary's Catholic Church, loved animals especially horses, enjoyed nature, music and politics.
Services for Charlene Shasteen will be the Holy Rosary and visitation on Thursday, February 24th, 7 PM, at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church, Gainesville. A celebration of life and funeral mass will be held Friday, February 25th, 2 PM, at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church, Gainesville, followed by interment at Fairview Cemetery. Services are under the direction of George J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home, Gainesville, Texas.
The family wishes to extend their sincere and heartfelt appreciation to her caregivers at Denton Rehab and Nursing Center where she spent the last 4 years of life following a stroke, the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church of Denton, Monsignor King, Father Isaac, Father Cruz and lay ministry, and Pastor Hollis Parsons for their kind and faithful support, comfort and service.
