Irene Adcock

Funeral services for Irene Adcock, 98, of Gainesville, are set for 2 pm Sunday April 10, 2011 at the Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Don Yeager officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery. No visitation is planned.

Irene was born on November 20, 1912 in Nida, Oklahoma to Everett and Sallie Faught Gound. She died April 7, 2011 in Denton. She attended school in Colbert, OK, then moved to Wichita Falls where she graduated from Rider High School in 1928. She began working for Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. in 1929, and later transferred to Dallas in 1944. She was Assistant Chief Operator when she married Steve A. Adcock on December 29, 1953. Irene was a member of First United Methodist Church of Gainesville and the Friendship Sunday School class.

She is survived by a cousin Evelyn Hansen of El Cajon, CA; a nephew and his wife Sammy and Barbara Rippey of Sanger, TX; nephew and his wife Bob and Jo Ann Adcock of Fort Worth; niece Jeanette Kenas of Fort Worth; and special friends Lisa Wolf and Bobby Stevens.

She was preceded in death by her husband Steve in 1995, her parents, and a sister Gladys Donnell in 1986.
