Lucian Ancil (L.A.) West , Marietta, OK, left this world on May 13, 2011. He was born in Whitesboro, Tx, September 16, 1924, to Earl and Bertha Anise (Davis) West. He resided in the Dexter, TX, area attending Liberty Hill School until he was about 10 years old. At that time, along with his parents he forded the Red River near Delaware Bend, driving the family cattle to cross over into Oklahoma where the family would make their home in Thackerville. L.A. graduated from Thackerville High School and shortly thereafter joined the U.S. Army. He served his country in the Pacific Theater for three years attaining the rank of Corporal.
Upon receiving an Honorable Discharge in 1945, he earned a degree in agriculture, but spent his time selling cars. L.A. was known for his salesmanship. He spent his life selling cars in North Texas, New Mexico, Missouri, Oregon, and Oklahoma, and after retirement he went into the produce and "junk" business in Marietta, OK.
November 9, 1957, he married Helen O. (Ritcherson) Sears in Gainesville, TX, who preceded him in death January 3, 1996. He is survived by one son, Larry and his wife Liz of Corinth, TX, their children Steven Smith of Lewisville, TX, Michael Keith West and Elise West of Corinth, TX, and a daughter, Elaine and husband Mike McHorse of Gainesville, TX, their children, Chad Reed and wife, Anne of Houston, TX, Jennifer Bayer of Euless, TX, and Emily Childers of Justin, TX. He is also survived by seven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at Mt. Zion cemetery, Thackerville, OK, at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, May 16, under the direction of Geo. J. Carroll Funeral Home. Rev. Don Yeager of First United Methodist Church in Gainesville will conduct the service. No visitation is planned.
