Robert Wayne Gilbert

On August 18, 2011, Wayne Gilbert , 86, passed away at Pecan Tree Manor in Gainesville TX.

Wayne Gilbert was born in Gainesville TX on August 27, 1924 to the parentage of John Daniel and Pearl Green Gilbert. Wayne attended Gainesville schools. On March 23, 1951, he married the love of his life, Emma Bell Rosson. Most of their married life has been spent in the Gainesville area. He belonged to the Gainesville Antique and Classic Car Club. He was employed in the oil fields and in 1959 started operating Wayne Gilbert Auto Salvage, which is now Gilbert’s Wrecker Service, continuing in the same location on East Hwy 82.

Wayne had a love and passion for owning and restoring antique cars. His favorite restored car was his grey 1936 Ford Coupe. He enjoyed traveling around the country with his antique car buddies to museums, swap meets and especially his trips to the Henry Ford museum in Detroit. He loved animals and they always knew there would be a little treat sneaked under the table to them, when no one was looking, it made no difference whose table he was seated at. Wayne was truly a friend to humans and animals alike, and will be missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife Emma, daughter Debra and husband Ronny Trammell of Gainesville; son Terry and wife Marci Gilbert of Gainesville; daughter Kim Novoa of Irving; grandsons Lance and wife Jennifer Trammell of Rockwall; Jeremy Trammell, Chris and Stephen Wallace of Gainesville; great-grandson Mason Trammell and great-granddaughter Landry Trammell and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents John Daniel and Pearl Gilbert; brother Kenneth; and sisters Dorothy and Joann.

A eulogy will be read Monday, August 22, 2011 at 6:00 pm with visitation to follow at Geo. J. Carroll and Son Funeral Home. Graveside service will be Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at 10:00 am at Fairview Cemetery with Rev. Mark Loewen officiating.
