Bradley J. Neu

Bradley J. Neu formerly of Gainesville passed away on August 26, 2011 at UMC Lubbock, TX at the age of 38. Brad was born on April 6, 1973 in Gainesville to Denis and Connie Van Hoorebeke Neu.

Brad attended St. Mary's from kindergarten through 8th grade graduating from GHS in 1991. During high school he achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. In 1996 he received his BS from Texas Tech followed by an MBA in 2001, a Master of Science in 2002 and a Master of Education from Lubbock Christian in 2008.

Brad has been the recipient of many awards for his teaching efforts including: The Albert Einstein Distinguished Educator Fellowship Award in 2002, Presidential Award for Excellence in Math and Science Teaching in 2003, Texas Outstanding Science Educator Award in 2007, The Texas Society of Professional Engineers Visioneer Award in 2008 and the Beaumont Foundation Excellence in Education Award in May of this year.

Passionate is the word we use for the way Brad regarded education especially the sciences. At the time of his death he was teaching physics, astronomy and robotics at Lubbock High. He loved his fellow teachers and his students and they loved him as evidenced by all the visits, messages and cards he received during his brief illness.

Bradley is survived by his parents Denis and Connie, his sister Lori Neu and beloved nephew Ashton Neu. Also surviving him are aunts and uncles Jeanne and Rupert Hoenig, Helen Jones, Patsy and Maurus Rohmer, Clara Mae Taylor, Stella and Wilson Stinnett, Shirley and Bob Dorsch, David and Phyllis Neu, Donna and Bob Boschert , Jan Van Hoorebeke, and a whole host of cousins. He was preceeded in death by his grandparents George and Jimmie Van Hoorebeke and Ted and Agnes Neu, uncle Michael Neu and aunt Carol Ann Neu.

A Rosary and visitation will be at 7PM on Mon. Aug. 29th at Geo J Carroll Funeral Home with funeral services to be held on Tues. Aug. 30th 10AM at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Mass will be celebrated by Fr. Jim Pemberton and Fr. Victor Cruz. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery.Pallbearers will beLouie Hilliard,Colby Sharp, Brad Herr, David Mark Rohmer, Keith Hoedebeck and Ronnie Prescher.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Brad Neu Scholarship Fund at the First State Bank, PO Box 10, Gainesville, TX 76241-0010. This scholarship will be awarded to a deserving student with an interest in science.
