JOHN ROY PIPES

A memorial service for John Roy Pipes, 83, of Gainesville, will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, October 13, 2011 at the Hillcrest Church of Christ with Robert Pipes and David Gray officiating.

Mr. Pipes died October 6, 2011 at his residence. John Roy was born September 1, 1928 in Thurber to Willie Brann and Julia Pauline (Duke) Pipes.

John Roy graduated from Tarleton State University in 1948 and Texas A&M in 1957 with an engineering degree. He proudly served in the US Air Force in Korea from 1951 to 1953. In 1959, John Roy married Mary Watson in Forth Worth. He worked as a civil engineer for the Soil Conservation Service for 33 years before retiring. He then was employed by the Cooke Co. Environmental Health Department, retiring after 7 years of service. Then John Roy opened his own business, Pipes Engineering Services, which operated for 10 years.

Mr. Pipes was an avid Leopards fan, following them with passion for 32 years.

John Roy is survived by his wife Mary Pipes of Gainesville; son John L. Pipes of Gainesville; son and daughter-in-law Michael R. and Tana Pipes of Odessa; grandson Brandon Pipes; grandson Steven Pipes. He is also survived by 5 siblings.

Mr. Pipes is preceded in death by his parents and by 2 siblings.
