OSCAR RAY SIKES
Funeral services for O. R. Sikes, 84, of Gainesville, will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday, October 20, 2011 at the Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Todd Gray officiating. Burial will follow in the New Resthaven Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 7:00 to 8:30 PM Wednesday, October 19, 2011 at the funeral home.
Mr. Sikes passed away October 17, 2011 in Plano.
O. R. was born November 29, 1926 in Gainesville, to Franklin Ray and Katie (Hacker) Sikes.
Mr. Sikes is survived by his 3 sons Franklin Ray, Randy Allen, and Chris W. Sikes; his loving niece Maria Langston; 15 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; 7 great great grandchildren.
O. R. married Christine Eastman on November 5, 1948, being together for 58 years until her passing 2006. They lived on the family farm that was deeded by J. M. Lindsay to Wolfgang Hacker and Mary Hacker, O. R. Sikes grandparents, on January 27, 1899.
Mr. Sikes served in the United State Army in 1946, during WWII. He was the owner and operator of the Sikes Mobil Gas Station from 1959 to 1976. He then retired to operate the family cattle farm until 2007. He and Christine raised 5 children on that farm.
O. R. was an honorable man of great Christian faith, and was a great father and a loving husband.
Mr. Sikes was preceded in death by his wife Christine; son W. C. Sikes; daughter Linda Kay Bruce; and 3 siblings Eller, Dolly, and Freddie.
