Elwood Spencer Poore

Rev. Woody Poore transferred to his Heavenly Home on Saturday, December 3, 2011 from Denton Regional Hospital at the age of 89.
Woody was born in Haverhill, MA on February 12, 1922 to Edwin and Lucy (Brown) Poore.
He graduated from Cornell College and then from Bangor Theological Seminary. He married Ruth Grace Webster on September 3, 1948. He served churches in Maine, Iowa, and Texas. He graduated with advanced degrees in Music History and Sacred Music from SMU.
Woody was Pastor Emeritus at First United Methodist Church, Gainesville, Texas. His service in the ministry spanned over 60 years, touching the lives of hundreds of families.
Woody enjoyed people, collecting stamps and postcards, and music. He was a 32nd Degree Mason, a Lion’s Club member, a veteran (Army Signal Corp), a teacher, a community volunteer, and life-long student.
Services in celebration of his life will be at the First United Methodist Church, Rev. Don Yeager, officiating, at 1PM on Wednesday, December 7th.
Interment will follow at the Fairview Cemetery in Gainesville.
Rev. Poore is survived by his son, Ralph Spencer Poore and his wife, Patty (McLeroy) of Arlington, Texas, and his daughter, Nancy Poore Lockhart of Gainesville; grandchildren, Anthony Wayne Bahnick of Arlington, Susan Diane Poore and her husband Brian Carrell of Arlington, Amanda Grace Poore of Oak Cliff, and Sybil Lockhart of Arlington; great grandchildren, Shelby and Nicholas Bahnick of Gun Barrel City; daughter-in-law, Debra (Smelcer) Poore of Gainesville.
He was preceded by his parents, Edwin and Lucy Poore, his siblings, Melissa, Malcolm, and Hayden Poore, his wife, Ruth Webster Poore, and his son Charles Billings Poore.
Arrangements are under the direction of George J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home.
