Graveside services for Gilbert J. Bindel, 76, of Gainesville are set for 3:00 pm Thursday, December 15, 2011 at Fairview Cemetery, under the direction of Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home. A celebration of life led by Byron Berry will be held following the graveside at 4:00 pm at the Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home.

Gilbert was born November 13, 1935 to Frank and Mary (Fleitman) Bindel. He passed away on Sunday, December 11, 2011 at his home.

He graduated in 1954 from Sacred Heart Catholic School in Muenster. After graduation, he joined the U.S. Army. While stationed in Germany, he had the opportunity to visit many of his Fleitman relatives which he enjoyed. After his discharge, he returned to Muenster where he joined the V.F.W. Post #6205 and was a life member. He served as the commander of V.F.W. Post 1922 from 1964-1966, and was Post Quartermaster from 1977-2010. He attended Cooke County Junior College and North Texas College. He married Joyce Rosson Berry on December 26, 1964. He later moved to Gainesville and was employed by the USDA Soil Conservation Service in the administrative field where he received many Service Awards. He retired in 1984.

Survivors include his wife Joyce of Gainesville; daughter and son in law Denise and Martin Tamez of Marietta, OK; stepson Byron Berry of Rosston; stepdaughter Brenda Russell and husband Mike of Frisco; grandchildren Zach Haverkamp, Colby Berry, Colton Berry, Ashliegh Berry, and Daniele Moore; four great grandchildren; sister and brother in law Gertie and Arnold Wimmer of Muenster; brother and sister in law Harold and Betty Jean Bindel of Muenster; sister and brother in law Marcella and William Koerner of Pilot Point; brother and sister in law Leonard and Sylvia Bindel. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Adeline Livingston, brother Wilfred Bindel, and Gerald Bindel.

Honorary pallbearers are Donnie Koerner, Ben Bindel, Darren Bindel, Wayne Wimmer, Zach Haverkamp, Colby Berry, and Colton Berry.
