Funeral Services for Billy Joe “BJ” Wood, 67, of Gainesville are set for 10 A.M. Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at the Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Larry Eberhart officiating. Interment will be at Pearsall Cemetery in Pearsall, TX on Thursday, January 26, 2012 at 2 P.M. Mr. Wood passed away January 18, 2012. He was born November 26, 1944 in Houston to Norman Columbus and Mae Lue Wood.



BJ married Betty Irene King on December 1, 1967. Together they adopted their son, Justin, in September 1980.



BJ graduated from Alice High School and attended the Police Academy and Texas A&I. He worked for the Houston Police Department for several years before going to work for Texas Parks and Wildlife. He was a Peace Officer for Lake Ray Roberts before retiring in 2004. In retirement he enjoyed collecting trains and coins and spending time with family and friends in the other cities where he had lived, including Alice, Houston, Johnson City, Blanco, and Bulverde. He was also an active member of the NRA.



Mr. Wood is survived by son Justin Wood and wife Doreen of Whitesboro; brother JC Wood and wife Reba of Hot Springs, AR; grandchildren Krysta, Dakota and Dustin Wood of Whitesboro; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.



Mr. Wood was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and sisters Gwen Dozier, Norma Nell Patten, and Alba Ware.



A visitation will be held prior to the funeral on Wednesday, January 25, 2012 from 8-10 A.M. at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home
