Irene Woodrum, 86, a long-time resident of Gainesville, died Friday, June 15th, 2012. She was born January 27, 1926 in Huntington, West Virginia, the oldest daughter of William and Mathilda Scheibelhood McCloskey.
Irene graduated from St Joseph Catholic High School in Huntington and attended nursing school at St. Mary's Hospital in Huntington.
She married Richard Lee Woodrum on July 16, 1949. They lived in Gainesville for 30 years and were owners/operators of James Boot and Shoe Repair on Commerce Street from 1982 to 1999.
Irene was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Woodrum. She is survived by her six children, Bernard Woodrum, Anita Woodrum, Rita and husband Michael Phelps, Peggy Reuling, Bonnie and husband Steve Dektor, Neil Woodrum, and 12 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
She is also survived by her brother, Forest and wife Susan McCloskey of Lexington,KY; sisters Annabelle and husband Richard Honnell of Los Alamos, NM; and Evelyn and husband Sam Collins of Cincinatti, OH.
Funeral Mass is set for 10:00 am Wednesday, June 20, 2012 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Muenster. Burial will follow in the Valley View Cemetery under the direction of Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home. A visitation will be held at the funeral home from 7:00 - 8:00 pm Tuesday, June 19, 2012.
