Velva Koebelen

Services for Velva Koebelen, 85, will be held at 3:00 pm Saturday, August 18, 2012, at the FirstPresbyterian Church with the Rev. John Hare officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery under thedirection of Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home. A visitation will be held before the service from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Gainesville, TX.

Mrs. Koebelenpassed away Wednesday, August 15, 2012, in Gainesville.

She was bornAugust 28, 1926, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to Bernard and Mabel EgglestonO’Hara. She grew up in Tuttle,Oklahoma. She attended Oklahoma Collegefor Women in Chickasha, OK, where she received a bachelor’s degree in HomeEconomics. She also attended TexasWomen’s University where she pursued a masters degree. She married Lloyd Koebelen August 5, 1951, inLone Wolf, OK. They moved to Texas in1952 and have resided in Gainesville since 1959. Mrs. Koebelen taught high school VocationalHome Economics for 43 years. She taughtat Lone Wolf, OK, Gainesville, Collinsville, and Callisburg. She retired from teaching in July of1993. While living in Gainesville, shesponsored the Future Homemakers of America, and was a teacher trainer forstudent teachers at Texas Women’s University and North Texas University. She was a charter member of Vocational HomeEconomics Teachers of Texas and served on the State Advisory Council for manyyears. Velva was a member of Delta KappaGamma, V.F.W. Auxilliary, Post 1922, and former Camp Fire Girls leader. She was a beloved member and faithful servantof First Presbyterian Church. She sangin the choir for many years and was a charter member of Mariners and a lifetimemember of Presbyterian Women.

She is survivedby daughters, Loy Ann Richardson; Jan Autry and husband Corie. Grandsons: Patrick, Ryan, and KevinRichardson and Matthew Autry, all of Gainesville. Brothers and sisters-in-law: Max and FlorenceO’Hara of El Reno, OK and Forrest and Loretta O’Hara of Tuttle, OK; sister-in-law,Ida Lou Melot of Weatherford, OK. She isalso survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons and nephews.
