Funeral Services for Hazel Blythe, 94, of Gainesville, are set for 10:00 am Thursday August 30, 2012 at the First Baptist Church in Dumas, TX. Burial will follow in Northlawn Memorial Gardens in Dumas under the direction of the Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home. A visitation in Gainesville, TX. will be held from 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm Tuesday, August 28, 2012 at the Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home. A visitation in Dumas, TX. will be held from 9:00 am - 10:00 am Thursday, August 30, 2012 at the First Baptist Church in Dumas.
Hazel Geneva Wibbing Blythe was born in Ft. Smith, AR. on December 27, 1917 to Fred Charles Wibbing and Bertie Rose Brothers Wibbing. She passed into the presence of her Lord on August 27, 2012. She attended school in Cavanaugh, AR.. She met the love of her life, George William Blythe at Cavanaugh Baptist Church and on March 23, 1935 they eloped. Several years later they moved to Dumas where they lived until her husband's retirement to Ft. Smith in 1975. Upon his death in 1977, she returned to Dumas where she lived until moving to Lake Kiowa to live with her son Benny.
Hazel lived an active life in Dumas rearing four sons and a daughter. She was primarily a homemaker, but she was active in the community as a member of the Pilot Club, Eastern Star, Ladies Bowling League, and volunteer at the Pioneer Museum. As a member of the First Baptist Church, she was a member of WMU, the Happy Timers Choir, and participated in many church ministries.
Hazel is survived by many friends and relatives who treasured her sweet spirit. They include son Don and wife Barbara Blythe of Fritch, TX; son George William Jr. (Bill) and wife Jill Blythe of Lake Kiowa, TX; son James and wife Dianne Blythe of Lake Kiowa, TX; son Benny and wife Georgia Blythe of Lake Kiowa, TX; son-in-law Larry Lambert of Dumas, TX; brother-in-law Elmo Blythe of Dumas, TX; sister-in-law Martha Lou Puett of Red Bluff, CA; and sister-in-law Flonnie Blythe of Ft. Smith, AR. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Willie, daughter Rose Ann Lambert, brother Andrew Wibbing, and brother Harlan Wibbing.
