Gerald Wayne ( Tom ) Hammer

Funeral services for Tom Hammer are set for 10:00 a.m. Thursday, March 21, 2013, at the Commerce Street Church of Christ, 602 N. Commerce Street, Gainesville, Texas 76240 with Jay Culpepper will officiate. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery with services under the direction of the Geo .J. Carroll and Son Funeral Home. Lunch will be served at the Church following the graveside service. Tom departed to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 16, 2013 from Harris Heart Hospital in Fort Worth.

Tom was born on March 27, 1928 in Graham, Oklahoma. He was the fourth of seven children of long-time Gainesville residents T. M. and Willie Hammer. Tom married Melba Faye Fore in November, 1946, and they lived in Gainesville from then until 1957 and again from 1967 until 1974. Thereafter, Tom lived in Gainesville as caregiver for his mother until her death. Eight years later in 2012, he moved from Gainesville into a retirement community in Granbury and resided there until his death. Tom was employed throughout his career by numerous companies operating in the oil well service and equipment industry. He was involved in various aspects of oil and gas production in Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas and Louisiana.

Tom is survived by sons David and Robert Hammer, daughter-in-law Kay Hammer and her daughters Christi and Keri, grandsons Paul, Peter and Ben Hammer, sister Judy Hammer Nehib and brother Edwin Hammer. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive him. He was preceded in death by his parents, three older sisters and a younger brother.

Pallbearers will be Paul Hammer, Peter Hammer, Ben Hammer, Mike Rosenberg, Randy Leach and Terry Goode. You may sign the registry at the Commerce Street Church of Christ or at the funeral home.
