John Marcus Barnes

Funeral services for John Marcus Barnes 80, of Gainesville are set for Thursday March 21, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the Geo. J. Carroll and Son Funeral Chapel with Rev. Hollis Parsons and Rev. Ron Miner officating with burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery . The family will receive friends on Wednesday March 20, 2013 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Barnes passed away on March 18, 2013 in Denton Tx.

John was born on July 16, 1932 in Gainesville, Texas to Oliver and Johnnie Ruth Dresser Barnes. John served in the United States Army during the Korean War and upon returning from the service he ran the Marysville Store and then retired from National Supply after thirty years where he was a foreman in the welding shop. He loved hunting, fishing but most of all playing dominos at the Stanford House. John also loved his family dearly.

John is survived by his wife Lenora Barnes of Gainesville, daughter and son and law Donna and Calvin Mosley of Forestburg, Tx, son Marc Barnes of Gainesville, daughter Vickie Hess of Muenster Tx, and son and daughter in law Sonny and Denise Barnes of Gainesville, step daughter Susie Drummonds and her husband Ken, brother and sister in law Donald and Loretta Thompson of Thackerville, Oklahoma, 14 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and serveral nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his parents, step father Amos Thompson and step son Harold Hughes. Pallbearers will be family and honorary pallbearers will be Robert Richey, Winnie Sherrill and John McGee. Memorial contributions may be made to the Standford House 401 W.
