Funeral services for John Marcus Barnes, 80, of Gainesville, are set for Thursday, March 21, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Chapel with burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 20, 2013 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. Barnes passed away on March 18, 2013 in Denton, Tx.
John was born on July 16, 1932 in Gainesville, Tx to Oliver and Johnnie Ruth Dresser Barnes. John served in the United States Army during the Korean War and upon returning from the service he ran the Marysville Store and then retired from National Supply after thirty years where he was a foreman in the welding shop. He loved hunting and fishing, but most of all, playing dominoes at the Stanford House. John also loved his family dearly.
John is survived by his wife Lenora Barnes of Gainesville; daughter and son-in-law Donna and Calvin Mosley of Forestburg, Tx; son Marc Barnes of Gainesville; daughter Vickie Hess of Muenster, Tx; and son and daughter-in-law Sonny and Denise Barnes of Gainesville; step-daughter Susie Drummonds and her husband Ken; brother and sister-in-law Donald and Loretta Thompson of Thackerville, Ok; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and serveral nieces and nephews.
John was preceded in death by his parents; step-father Amos Thompson; and step-son Harold Hughes.
