Jean was born in Aubrey on May 22, 1914 to Edward and Mary Ethel Brooks Rea. She was the fifth of seven children, with five brothers and one sister. As a young child, the family moved to Randall County, near Amarillo, where her father farmed and ranched. She attended and graduated school in Bushland, Texas. In 1932, she married Tony Voth who was a farmer near Lindsay. To this union, four children were born. After many happy years together Tony passed away at the age of 57 in 1964.

Several years later Geraldine married Frank Haverkamp, Sr and they built a new home close to Lindsay. After 13 years together, he passed away after a long illness. She continued living by herself in the same house until her death. Jean enjoyed being a hard working member of St. Peter's Catholic Church in Lindsay. She was always ready to assist with any type of job that needed to be accomplished. She served as a favorite babysitter for her family members. She excelled in needlecraft, including beautiful and intricate quilting and embroidery, making treasured items for relatives.

Jean was also an outstanding cook, serving delicious meals to family and friends. She spent countless hours helping prepare and serve meals for funerals and weddings in Lindsay and Muenster. She was also an eager volunteer at the local nursing homes for many years. To Jean, family was everything and she devoted her life to those she loved. Her family will miss her greatly and will take comfort in knowing, "She will be home with her Heavenly Father."
