Graveside memorial services for Clint Mercer, 88, of Gainesville, are set for 10:00 AM Saturday, March 30, 2013 at the Fairview Cemetery pavilion. The family will receive friends on Friday, March 29, 2013 from 6:00 to 8 p.m. at the Woodbine Baptist Church fellowship hall.
Mr. Mercer passed away on the morning of Monday, March 25, 2013 at the age of 88 years. He was a long-time resident of Gainesville. Clint was born in Walnut Bend, Texas on February 10, 1925. His parents were Andrew Jackson Mercer and Ida May Ward Mercer. He was preceded in death by his parents and four siblings.
Clint graduated from Gainesville High School in 1942 and served in the United States Air Force. He was stationed on Okinawa for the majority of his military service. After being honorably discharged, he earned degrees from Cooke County Junior College and North Texas State University. Clint taught mathematics at the Gainesville Middle School and High School until his retirement in 1987.
He was an active member of Woodbine Baptist Church and loved to sing with the praise team. Clint was a member of the Masonic Lodge and served two terms as master of the Gainesville Lodge.
He is survived by his wife, Merle and daughter, Sherre, both of Gainesville and many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, make memorial donations to Woodbine Baptist Church or to www.lbda.org.
