Billy Lee Hinchey
Bill Hinchey, 79, of Gainesville, a long-time resident of Valley View, passed away April 4, 2013 in the beautiful setting of his daughter’s home with his wife, son, and daughter at his side.
He was a devoted husband, an inspiring father, a loving grandfather and great-grandfather, and a motivational teacher to so many in the community. His life was a wonderful example of the Christian walk with great love, discipline, faith, and honor for his God and country. At his core, Bill was a teacher. He lived Deuteronomy 6:1-7 by guiding and teaching his family, friends, and students about the love of Christ. He was truly happiest when he was with his family and friends, but was also an avid cyclist and travelled through Ireland on a cycling tour when he was 65 to see his heritage.
Bill was born on November 10, 1933 in Davis, Oklahoma to Wilma Burris Hinchey and Leroy Hinchey. He was married to Carol Doreen Bates Hinchey for 57 years. He was father to Becky Lee Hinchey Jenkins and husband, Carey of Gainesville; and to Johnny Noel Hinchey and wife, Darla of Corinth. He was grandfather to Alex Noel Jenkins and wife, Katie; and to Colin Lee Hinchey, Connor Noel Hinchey, and Audrey Caroline Hinchey; and was great-grandfather to Benjamin Locke Jenkins.
Bill graduated from Carey High School in 1952 and served in the United States Army as a Staff Sergeant in the Korean conflict. He obtained his Bachelor of Science in Industrial Arts Degree from North Texas State University in 1977 and his Elementary Education Degree in 1981. He worked at National Supply as well as Jones & Laughlin Steel in Gainesville, but was most fond of being a 5th grade teacher for 15 years later in life for the Valley View Independent School District.
He attended Calvary Baptist Church since 1964 where he served as a Men’s Sunday school teacher and a Deacon. He was also a member of the Gideon’s International.
Bill is survived by his wife; children; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; sister, Shirley Brandenberger and husband Buddy; as well as sister-in-law Juanita Nowlin and husband, Jerrill; and sister-in-law Sharon Reynolds.
The Family wishes to thank the compassionate staff of Solaris Hospice Care and his very special sister-in-law, Sharon Reynolds.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 6 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home in Gainesville. Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday, April 7 at 2:00 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Calvary Baptist Church in Gainesville, Texas.
