Shirley Ann Turnham Burks

Funeral services for Shirley Ann Turnham Burks, 68, of Gainesville, are set for 10:00 AM Thursday, April 11, 2013 at the First Christian Church in Gainesville with the Rev. Mark Loewen officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairview cemetery under the direction of Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 10, 2013 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at the funeral home.

Shirley was born on December 1, 1944 in Gainesville to Oscar and Effie Mabe Turnham. She passed away on April 6, 2013 in Denison.

Shirley graduated Gainesville High School in 1962. On September 4, 1964, she married Charles Gaylon Burks. She started her career in 1960 at Watts Bros Pharmacy until 1969. She was employed by Gainesville National Bank in 1969 until her retirement in 2006. She then went to work at First State bank in 2007 and was currently employed there. She also worked at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home beginning in 2007 and was currently employed there as well.

She is survived by her brother Oscar Turnham, Jr. of Gainesville; sister Bessie Childress Brinkley of Gainesville; brother George Childress of Gainesville; and a brother Burton Eugene Wright of Las Vegas, NV.; and several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by special friends Lucy Tatom, Charles Clement, Betty Garrett, Frankie Barnes, Mary Wallace, Dora Ward, Jo Clark, Mary Jean Lewis, and numerous other special friends.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, husband Charles in 2006, and a brother Charles Childress.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Christian Church Building Fund, Noah's Ark, or the Frank Buck Zoo.
