Emma Bell Gilbert

December 12, 1929 — May 28, 2013

On Tuesday afternoon, May 28, 2013, Emma Bell Rosson Gilbert, 83, passed away peacefully to Heaven. Waiting there for her was her beloved husband, Wayne. Heaven got another angel that afternoon. She will be truly missed and always loved by those who knew her.


Emma Bell Gilbert was the youngest of seven (7) children born in Montague County, on December 12, 1929, to the parentage of W.B. and Cliva (Coursey) Rosson. On March 23, 1951, in Gainesville, Emma married the love of her life, Wayne Gilbert. Emma was an avid bowler beginning in 1960 thru the 1980’s, having received many trophies for her skills. In the late 1950’s Emma and Mr. Bud Leonard were instrumental in organizing the first girls’ softball league in the City of Gainesville. She played catcher for the Women’s Softball League. She was the consummate homemaker, housewife, and house mother. Like all mothers, she welcomed everyone into her home for a nourishing meal and friendship.

Those left to cherish her memory are Debra and Ronny Trammell of Gainesville, Terry and Marci Gilbert of Gainesville, and Kim Gilbert Novoa of Dallas. Grandchildren Lance and Jennifer Trammell, Jeremy Trammell, Christopher Wallace and Stephen and Taylor Wallace. Great Grandchildren Mason and Landry Trammell. Numerous nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her husband Wayne, parents, one (1) sister and five (5) brothers.

Those honoring the family as pallbearers are Jeremy Trammell, Christopher and Stephen Wallace, Gary Hillis, Tom Parker, and David Tharp. Honorary pallbearers are Lance Trammell, Elbert Rosson, George Rosson, W.L. Rosson, James Wilson, Bobby Jobe, and Bobby Tharp.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, May 31, 2013 at Fairview Cemetery with Rev. Mark Loewen officiating. A visitation is set from 6:00 to 7:00 PM Thursday, May 30, 2013 at the Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home.

In lieu of floral tributes the family request memorials are made to the First Christian Church Quilt Ministry.
