Jo Ann Powell

Jo Ann Powell, 88, of Gainesville, Texas passed away peacefully in her home August 4, 2013. She was born to Floyd and Ione Webb in Ardmore, OK, on March 18, 1925. She was married to Dr. William F. Powell who preceded her in death.

Jo Ann graduated from Gainesville High School and received a degree from Texas Women’s University in Home Economics.
Jo Ann was a long time member of the First Baptist Church and made the communion bread for Sunday services. She enjoyed a long career as a Senior Director with Mary Kay Cosmetics. Jo Ann owned and operated The Lindsay House and Powell Fine Art for over 25 years. Additionally, she served on the Board of Directors at Point Bank for 20 years.

She was active in many civic organizations and was passionate about making a difference in the lives of others.
Jo Ann is survived by her daughter Ann Murphy and husband Dr. Jay Murphy of Fort Worth, son Dr. William D. Powell and wife Melinda Powell of Asheville, NC, grandchildren Elizabeth Jones and husband Mark of Fort. Worth, Frasher Murphy and wife Adrienne of Dallas, Dr. William M. Powell and wife Keri of Greenville, SC, Lindsay Ford and husband Chris of Ft. Leavenworth, KS, and Hillary Fowler and husband Matthew of Chapin, SC. She is also survived by 10 great-grandchildren: Will and Sam Jones, Benjamin and Nate Murphy, Sara and Avery Powell, Miles and Cooper Ford, and George and Harlan Fowler. Other family members include Dr. and Mrs. Milton Dickson, Dr. and Mrs. Jerry Dickson and Patricia Winstead.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to First Baptist Church, 308 E. Broadway, Gainesville TX 76240 or Camp Sweeney for Children with Diabetes, P.O. Box 918, Gainesville, TX 76240.

Following a private graveside service, a memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church at11:00 AM Friday, August 9, 2013 with Dr. Bennie Slack officiating.
