Mary Jo Moore-Davis

Mary Jo Williams Moore-Davis was born November 4, 1930 in Montague County, Texas, the sixth daughter of Calvin Lonzo and Estelle Campbell Williams. She passed away October 21, 2013 in Denton, Texas.

Mary touched countless lives in the Gainesville area. She began a career in nursing at age eighteen. She cared for patients at the Gainesville Sanitarium and Cooke County Clinic for fifteen years. Her lifelong love of children then led her to attended Texas Woman's University where she received her bachelor and masters degrees and administrative certifications in education. She served Gainesville ISD as a Special Education teacher and as principal of J.M. Lindsay and Edison Elementary. She was inducted into the G.I.S.D Alumni Assn. Educator Hall of Fame in 2011. She was a member of Whaley United Methodist Church where she worshipped and served in many capacities for fifty years. She was a tireless volunteer in the community. She believed we were put on this earth to make it a better place for others and she lived her life accordingly. She was a role model to all who knew her. This world is indeed a better place because she walked among us. She will be sorely missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands Bill Blanton and Joe Moore, and sisters Lorene, Christine, and Jackie. She is survived by husband W. Clyde Davis, son Stan Temple (Cynthia), daughter Stephanie Stogdill (Jim), grandchildren Erica and Justin Temple, Grant (Kacie), Jordan, and Blanton Stogdill, great-grandchildren Nolyn, Camryn, Jonathan, and Lilly Stogdill, brothers C.L. and Lynn Williams, sisters Billye Huchton and Joyce Bell, and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, Oct. 24 at 2 p.m. at Whaley United Methodist Church. Family visitation will be held at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home Wednesday, Oct. 23 from 6-8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Whaley United Methodist Church.
