Funeral services for Weldon Thurman Scivally, 81, of Gainesville, are set for 10:00 AM Monday, November 11, 2013 at the First Baptist Church of Gainesville with Dr. Bennie Slack officiating and Johnny Leftwich and Hank Lovejoy assisting. Burial will follow in the Lakeview Cemetery in Marietta, OK. A visitation will be held at 6:00 PM Sunday, November 10, 2013 at the Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home.
Thurman passed away from this life on the 7th of November, 2013 at his residence at the age of 81 years. He is survived by the love of his life Doris Ann Langston Scivally. They were married January 19, 1951 in Ardmore, OK.
Born on June 29, 1932, Thurman was the eldest living son of Ethyl Bond and M.C. Scivally. He was born and reared in Thackerville, OK where he excelled in basketball. He graduated from Thackerville High School and Cooke County College.
In 1958, Thurman opened the 1st Scivally’s Grocery on East Highway 82. His store was known for wonderful meat, great service, and credit back in the day before credit cards. His son Dale Scivally now runs this store. In 1987, Thurman then purchased his 2nd Scivally Grocery on California St. and managed it until his health failed some six years ago.
Thurman was one of five sons born to Ethel and M.C. Scivally. He was preceded in death by his baby brother Vernon in 1932 and his brother Glenn in 2012. He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law Lavern and Rosalind Scivally of Haltom City ; brother and sister-in-law Don and Linda Scivally of Marietta, OK; sister-in-law Kathye Scivally of Gainesville.
Thurman and Ann raised 5 children in Gainesville and is survived by all: Dale and his wife Jan Scivally of Marietta, OK; Carol Ann and her husband James Herman of Marietta, OK; Janet and her husband David Copeland of Midland; daughter Suzy Scivally of Lewisville; daughter Sandy and her husband Craig Carpenter of Lindsay. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Thurman Scivally served faithfully at the First Baptist Church until his health failed. He served two terms on the Board of Directors of Affiliated Foods in Keller and served one term as a Gainesville City Councilman. He was also a long-term member of the Kiwanis Club.
