Funeral services for John M. Hurt, 76, of Yantis, are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home, with Rev. Larry Kremling officiating. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 18 from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. Hurt passed away January 13, 2014 in Tyler, TX. He was born March 16, 1937 in Hamilton, TX to Irvin D. and Allie Clyde (Tillinghast) Hurt.
Mr. Hurt traveled the country for his greatest passion, fishing. He caught salmon in Washington and Walleye in Minnesota. He also enjoyed scuba diving in Grand Cayman and Florida. His family and friends will remember him for the unconditional love he showed them. They will hold dear the memories of countless hours spent on John’s boat on Grapevine Lake and Lake Fork.
Survivors include: brother, Irvin Hurt and wife, Mary; brother, Clyde Hurt; sister, Margaret Wayman; sister, Twyla Jo Cook and husband, Charles; ten nephews and one niece. Survivors also include his special and dear friends, Duane and Dee Manning; godson, Todd Hightower and his mother, Brenda; extended family, the Hahns; and the many special friends that filled John’s life.
Mr. Hurt was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Helen Dunnavent Hurt.
