Voncille Martin

Funeral services for Voncille Martin, 76, of Valley View, are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 31, 2014 at First Baptist Church – Valley View with Glen Kersey officiating. Interment will follow at Valley View Cemetery. The family will receive friends at The Rock following the committal service. Services are under the direction of Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home.

Mrs. Martin passed away January 28, 2014 in Denton.

Voncille was born October 28, 1937 in Cooke County to Bedford and Frankie Vestal. She entered into marriage with Thurman Martin on June 24, 1956 in Valley View. Mrs. Martin was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Valley View. She enjoyed traveling, seeing all the beauties of the United States by bus and train. She loved canning and cooking for her family. A great feast was prepared every holiday when she would host her family. Mrs. Martin is remembered by many as a substitute teacher at Valley View and Era schools. Most of all, she loved being on the farm, was a proud farmer’s wife, and caring for her family.

Survivors include: daughter, Denise Pearse and husband, Ken of Valley View; son, Jack Martin and wife, Julie of Era; grandchildren: Madison and Kendall Pearse; brother, Bedford Vestal and wife, Carolyn of Houston; best friend, Jane Alexander of Valley View; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Mrs. Martin was preceded in death by: her parents; husband; and granddaughter, Kendra Pearse.

Serving as pallbearers are: Madison Pearse, Ward Vestal, Dwayne Harris, Johnny Brown, Mitchell Hayes, Larry Tipps, Taylor Vestal, and Kenny Blanton.

In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to American Heart Association, American Diabetes Association, of First Baptist Church of Valley View.
