Jewell Maurice Martin

Funeral services for Jewell Maurice Martin, 89,of Gainesville, are set for Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at the Geo. J. Carroll & Son Chapel with her nephew Dr. Russell Martin and Rev. Karen Martinez officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 4, 2014 from 6:00 p.m. til 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Martin passed away on January 31, 2014 at her home.

Maurice was born on June 30, 1924 in Gainesville to Arty S. and Hettie J. Davidson Holcombe. She was a graduate of Gainesville High School in 1942 and graduated from the school of Nursing at Baylor University in 1945. She worked as the O.B. supervisor at the Gainesville Sanitarium and later at Gainesville Memorial Hospital. Maurice married Doug Martin on August 15, 1975 in Gainesville.

Maurice is survived by her husband Doug Martin of Gainesville, son Stephen Cheaney of Gainesville, daughter Vicki Lynne Hall of Gainesville, stepsons Hal Cheaney and his wife Shirley and Ronald Martin and his wife, 6 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild, a brother Robert Michael Holcombe and his wife Ronnie of Sunset, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her first husband Harold Cheaney in 1971, a son James Robert Cheaney in 1984 and her parents.
