Robert A. Davis, Jr. lost a short bout with cancer on February 4, 2014. Although his birth certificate states that he was born in Midville, GA, he always claimed he was born at home in Summerville. Both agree on the date of his birth as October 6, 1926. Bob was 87 years old.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert A. Davis, Sr. and Sue Woods Davis, two sisters, Marion and Betty (Georgia), and by his late wife, Yvonne. Bob is survived by his children Page Maddox, Robert Brian Davis and son-in-law, Mike Maddox, by his partner, Sally Page and her son, Nate Secaur, by nieces Cindy Brunner, Kat Guyon, and Sherrie Dunagan, and by nephews Scott Bryan, John and Jim Weed, and Jim Bass, and by brothers-in-law, Wally and Jerry Lefevre. Bob is also survived by his long-time friends Bob Allen and Jess Cason.
Bob graduated from Raton (NM) High School and started college in Trinidad, CO before transferring to Denver. He worked a short stent in the Merchant Marines then enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served as a medic for the Occupational Forces in Europe. After graduating from TCU in 1950, where he received a Bachelor of Science in Commerce, Bob joined his father’s business, the Southland Naval Store, which later became Southland Paint. In 1951 he married Yvonne Lefevre. Bob was an avid world traveler, photographer, hunter, civic leader, Rotarian, and good friend to many.
A celebration of Bob’s life will be held on Saturday, March 1, 2014 at 2 PM in the Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home located at 602 Lindsay St. in Gainesville. Pulpit Minister of the Era Church of Christ, Mike Haverland, will officiate.
