Funeral services for Weldon Davis, 80, of Gainesville, are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 14, 2014 at Hillcrest Church of Christ with David Gray officiating. Interment will follow at Valley View Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 13 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home.
Mr. Davis passed away February 10, 2014 in Gainesville.
Born October 12, 1933 in Sanger to Cordi and Lois Vandever Davis, Weldon grew up in Valley View. It was there that he met and soon entered into marriage with Rae Ann Stephenson in 1953. Shortly thereafter, Mr. Davis was drafted into the U.S. Army and served for two years during the Korean War, stationed primarily in Germany. Following his service, Mr. Davis went to work for Santa Fe Railroad, where he spent his entire career of 45 years. He worked in Dallas, Amarillo, Ardmore, and Gainesville, where he eventually retired. Mr. and Mrs. Davis enjoyed traveling the country together in their camper. He was also a passionate fisherman, sinking a hook anywhere there was water.
Survivors include: wife, Rae Ann Davis of Gainesville; sister, Wanda Cole of Sanger; brother, Waymon Davis of Lampasas; sister-in-law, Nelda Ford of Era; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Mr. Davis was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Deborah Davis; son, Tony Davis; brothers, D.W. and Kenneth; and sister, Shirley Dyer.
Serving as pallbearers are: Tim and Troy Moon, Jimmy Meyer, Dennis Dyer, Allen Everett, Ronnie Davis, and Don Ford. Serving as honorary pallbearers are: Rex Ford, Chris Tidwell, and Santa Fe Retirees.
