Richard Wayne Edwards

Richard Wayne Edwards, 46, passed from this earth to a heavenly realm on Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at his parents’ home in Lake Kiowa, Texas. Richard, known as “Big” to those close to him, was born November 28, 1967 in Shreveport, LA.  He grew up in Garland, Texas and moved to Lake Kiowa his sophomore year. He graduated from Callisburg High in 1985. He also attended NCTC and UNT.

Richard could light any room and never met a stranger. He loved his Lord and Savior very much and his family meant the world to him.  He lived vicariously through his sons with their youthful athleticism and love for sports. He spent every chance he had playing with them and coaching them through their many activities.

Richard was athletic and competitive by nature and was always up for a bout at the gym or the opportunity to shoot hoops or to toss the football around with friends and family. He loved his sport teams with a passion and was up with all the scores, highlights, and trade rumors. Richard was very intelligent and possessed some really unique gifts, like his uncanny memory. He and his big, loving personality will be missed greatly.

Survivors include: wife, DaNae Hanby Edwards of Gainesville; sons, Kason Grant and Braxton Dane Edwards; parents, Don and Margaret Edwards of Lake Kiowa; brother, Robert Leonard of Lakeway; sister, Kristina Grad of Lakeway; birth-father, Bob Leonard of Austin; father-in-law, Steve Hanby and wife, Angela of Denton; mother-in-law, Patty Blakeley of Denton; brother-in-law, Josh Hanby and wife, Debbie of Denton; brother-in-law, Drew Brown of Denton; and sister-in-law, Ashley Brown of Denton.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Imogene Rich and Raymond Casey.

His funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Monday, March 24, 2014 at the Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home Chapel with Steve Hanby officiating.  Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery.  The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 23 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
