James Douglas Delancey

December 16, 1939 — March 26, 2014

Funeral service for James Douglas DeLancey 74, of Gainesville who departed this world on March 26, 2014 in Denton Tx will be held on April 1, 2014 in the Geo. J. Carroll and Son Chapel at 1:00 p.m. with the Rev. Don Yeager officiating with burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery with Military Honors. The family will receive friends on Tuesday April 1, 2014 from 12:00 p.m. til 1:00 p.m at the funeral home.
Jim was born on December 16, 1939  in Wilmington Delaware to John and Clarie DeLancey.
Jim entered the U. S. Navy after graduation from Brown Vocational School in Wilmington Delaware. He served 20 yrs retiring on November 30, 1977, while in the Navy he served on several ships as well as an instructor at the Damage Control School in Philadelphia, Pa. His last duty station was on the Staff of COMNAVSURFLANT, Norfolk , Va.  Jim was awarded the Department of Navy Commendation Medal while serving in Viet Nam, he also received the Navy Citation for a major Class " Bravo " fire. During his career he was awarded many other honors.
Jim married Phyllis Proud, in San Diego, California on March 8, 1963 and together they enjoyed many things and in retirement they traveled the world together and saw all that they could. Jim's greatest love was spending time with his children, grandchildren and friends. who knew him as Bugg.
Jim moved to Gainesville in 1983 with Oak Creek Homes and later went to work for Boeing at their Corinth plant retiring in 2002.
Jim is survived by his son Mark DeLancey of Fort Wayne Ind.  daughter and her spouse Aimee and Greg Lane of Ponder Tx, grandchildren Alie, Delancey and Dawson Fogle of Lindsay Tx,, step grandson Jordon Lane, brother David DeLancey of Wilmington, Delaware and a sister Susan Joyce of Grants Pass, Or.
Jim was preceded in death by his wife Phyllis, his parents and a brother Jack Delancey.
