Jess Phillips, 80, of Gainesville, passed away at home April 13, 2014
He was born January 12, 1934 in Coalgate, OK to Burt Franklin Phillips and Lillie Mae Phillips.
Mr. Phillips grew up in Coalgate and moved to Odessa in the 50’s for work with Ruthco Inc, Pumping Unit Services. While he was working in the oil field there, he met Pat Whatley. They were married in Lovington, NM on December 20, 1955. The Phillips moved to North Texas in 1974 so Jess could assume the position of area manager for Ruthco Inc. He retired in 1984. In retirement, he enjoyed the outdoors and hunting. Jess had a memorable sense of humor. He said he made a lot of good deals in his life time, but he sure went in the hole on this one. Above all, he cherished the time he spent with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Survivors include: wife, Pat Phillips of Gainesville; daughter, Marianne Phillips Furlong and husband, Ken of Hewitt; son, Joe Phillips of Bryan; son, James Jones and wife, Heike of New Boston; son, Quintin McKinney and wife, Sharon of Callisburg; eight grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren.
Mr. Philips was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; one sister; and daughter, Tammy Lynn Nelson.
At his request, no services are planned.
