Graveside service for Lynda Gayle Wofford, who passed away on July 30, 2014 after battling multiple health issues, will be held on Saturday August 2, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at Fairview Cemetery with the Rev. Larry Kremling officiating under the direction of the Geo. J. Carroll and Son Funeral home. Lynda was a familiar figure for most in Gainesville, riding her bicycle around town, with a wave and a word for everyone she saw. She did it; every day she did it. Lynda never forgot a face and she never met a stranger. Whether it was stopping to tell a construction crew to get out of her way or running out to bend the mailman’s ear, she always had something to say! With her family—whom she loved fiercely and with great loyalty—she was a whirlwind of chatter, laughter, and (to her nieces, nephews, and cousins) a constant source of chewing gum.
Born with special needs, Lynda never let her limitations stop her. She taught all of us an important lesson about never being embarrassed to be who you are and never letting curious looks, outright staring, or even unkind words stop you from enjoying yourself or discourage you from engaging with others. Truly, she was a living reminder that the worth of a person is not solely defined by their ability or disability and that all people deserve to be treated with dignity and respect.
Lynda is preceded in death by her mother and father, Barbara Wofford and Ray B. Wofford, and her brother, Eddy Dell Ball. She is survived by brothers David and Larry Wofford as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. In her memory, and in lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider making a donation to any charitable organization or program that provides support and activities for the mentally disabled and their families
