Ruth Elaine Goudy, 89, of Gainesville, died August 4th. She was born in Fremont,
Ohio, the daughter of Glennard and Earline Michael, and she grew up on their
Sandusky farm. She attended nursing school prior to her marriage in 1944 to
William E. Goudy.
Ruth and Bill moved their young family to Gainesvillle in 1959 when Bill
was transferred from Toledo, Ohio, and soon became active in a variety of
community volunteer activities. They were particularly proud of their role in helping
convert the former town library into Arts Activities, a community center for the
performing and visual arts.
Following Bill’s death in 1981, Ruth continued her many community volunteer
activities which included Camp Fire Girls, Gainesville High School Band Boosters,
First United Methodist Church, North Texas Medical Center Auxiliary, and
swimming programs for youth and seniors. Her notable commitment to her
community was recognized with the RSVP’s Spirit of Service Award for Cooke
County.
She is survived by her brother John of Maumee, Ohio, three children; David Goudy
of Thetford, VT, Diana Cook of Pilot Point, TX, and Debra Goudy of Farmers
Branch, TX. She was very proud of her family including her seven grandchildren
and five great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She had a
reputation for never missing a birthday or holiday with her cards and expressions
of love. She was also known for her cooking skills and knew every family
member’s favorite treat.

United Methodist Church in Gainesville.
