Joseph Bernard Hundt

Joseph Bernard Hundt was born in Lindsay, Texas, on March 18, 1918. He was the son of Joseph A. and Emily Hundt. He married Elfrieda Hermes on November 11, 1947. He died on September 5, 2014.

Mr. Hundt served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1942 through 1946. After his discharge, he was a farmer until his retirement. He served on the Gainesville Hospital Board, on the Cooke County ISD Board, and was president of the Cooke County Farm Bureau. He was the last surviving grandson of Anton Flusche, the founder of Lindsay. He was also the last surviving member of the 1935 class at Subiaco Academy in Subiaco, Arkansas.

Mr. Hundt is survived by his wife of 67 years, and by his children and grandchildren: Ellen Story and her sons Guy, David, and Michael; Michael and Lexie Hundt and their children Kristy, Laura, Teresa, and Michelle; Margie and John Bendure and their daughter Jamie; Richard and Debbie Hundt and their children Darren, Carrie, and Benjamin; Robert Hundt; Joe and Sue Hundt and their children Elizabeth and Joe; Stephen and Lisa Hundt and their children Jerome, Jacob, and Lucas; Paul and Sandra Hundt and their children Emily and Sam; John Hundt; Marian and Kent Hargis and their children Noah and Anna. He is also survived by 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his son Jerry, his grandson Andrew Hundt, his great-grandson Rojo Perry, and his son-in-law Tommy Story, and by two brothers Greg Hundt and Herbert Hundt and two sisters Antonia Hess and Clara Dieter.

There will be a prayer service and visitation on Sunday, September 7th at 7:00 PM at George J. Carroll and Son Funeral Home in Gainesville, Texas. Funeral mass will be held at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Lindsay, Texas at 10:00 AM on Monday, September 8th.

The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the St. Peter’s Restoration Fund, 424 W. Main Street, Lindsay, TX 76250.
