Irene Margaret (Lutkenhaus) Wilson
Irene was born on October 28, 1923 in Muenster, Texas, and passed away on September 7, 2014 at the age of 90, at Gainesville Convalescent Center in Gainesville, Texas. A funeral service will be held at the Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home in Gainesville, Texas Wednesday September 10, 2014 at 7:00 PM with Kevin Sandmann, nephew of Irene, officiating the service. A visitation will be held at 6:00 PM, one hour before the service, at the funeral home. Another service will be held in Potsdam, New York, at Seymour Funeral Home, Inc. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Cemetery, Parishville, New York.
Irene moved to Oklahoma City in 1941 at the age of 18. While there, she worked in a canning company that supplied meat for our World War II Soldiers. She also worked at Tinker Air Force Base building airplanes for the war effort, as another "Rosy the Riveter". Later, she moved to Syracuse, New York and worked in a garment factory, a typewriter manufacturing factory, and a book binder factory, where she retired and then moved back to Texas after the death of her husband Harvey James Wilson, the love of her life, on August 9, 1979.
Irene is survived by one sister Lorene (Lutkenhaus) and husband Henry Sandmann of Valley View, Texas. She is survived by 17 nieces and nephews, and their spouses: Walter and Kathy Lutkenhaus; Laquita and Leon Neu; Norma and John Kubicek; Kevin and Lynda Sandmann; Dennis and Carolyn Lutkenhaus; Doris and W.C. Muller; Gary and Betty Sandmann; Mary Jo and Kelly West; Weldon and Ronda Sicking; Carol Ann and Rod Wilson; Leo and Peggy Lutkenhaus; Janet and Richard Womack; Rita and Tony Motsenbocker; Carl Sandmann; Charles Lutkenhaus; Wesley and Molly Sicking; and Warren and Shelly Sicking. Also surviving are step-daughter-in-law Charlotte Witherell; and other family members are Mary Jo (Witherell) Spencer; Jo Ann Thomas; Charlene and Timothy Randall. Irene is also survived by many great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces, and great-great-nephews.
She was proceeded in death by her husbands Harvey J. Wilson, and George Witherell; her parents George and Mary (Loeffelholz) Lutkenhaus; bother and sister-in-law August "Gus" and Armella Lutkenhaus; sister and brother-in-law Pauline and Louis Sicking; nephew Alan Sandmann; and step-son Joseph Witherell.
Irene enjoyed visiting her sisters, brother, and other kinfolk and friends. She liked painting, sewing, and crafts. First, and above all else, she enjoyed reading the Bible and talking about Jesus. She was a member of the Assemblies of God Church.
