William James Akins a long time resident of Gainesville , died September 8, 2014 at the Renaissance Care Center with his wife by his side.
William was born on June 9, 1942 in Dallas, Texas. He was the oldest of nine children to Margie Marie Hardin and James Henry Akins. He was a calf roper in the Professional Rodeo cowboys association for over 30 years and a commercial builder for 40 years. He would run his business by day and rodeo at night or train horses. He loved rodeo and he was loved by so many family and friends and he will be missed. William retired with his wife Peggy in 2006 due to his illness.
William is survived by his wife Peggy Hanna Akins of Gainesville., son Robert Akins of San Antonio, daughter Michelle LeClaire of sanger, stepsons Stacy and Steven McWhorter of Groesbeck, brothers Floyd Akins, Mike Akins of Gainesville, Bill Akins of Aubrey, Jack Akins of Sadler, sisters Brenda Mahon of Plano, Linda Brecheen of Robson Ranch, Glenda Carley of North Richland Hills, Connie Mullins of Los Colinas. Many grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his son John Paul Akins.
A memorial service will be held on September 13, 2014 at the First Baptist Church of Krugerville in Aubrey, Texas at 11:00 a.m.
