Kenneth Michael Homer

March 26, 1955 — October 24, 2014

A celebration of life will be held Wednesday October 29,2014 at 10 a.m. with visitation at 9:00 a.m. at Geo. J. Carroll and Son funeral home in Gainesville, Texas with the Rev. Larry Kremling officiating and Bill king euolgist. there will be no graveside services.

Mike blessed Jim and Joann Heizer Homer on March 26, 1955 in Gainesville, Texas being born in the Gainesville Sanitorium

Mike loved baseball, band, playing saxophone, deer hunting with his family every Thanksgiving and sharing his witty humor with all of those around him. He was inducted into the Order of the Arrow achieved Eagle Scout in 1970, Troup 665. He was also a Standard Bearer in the order of DeMolay. In High School he was an exceptional baseball player on the Gainesville Leopards where he placed on the 3A-6 All District baseball team as a center fielder and relief pitcher. In August 1973 Mike placed in tryouts with the Texas Ranger's Minor league system. In may of 1973 he was awarded Drum Major Scholarship for the UT Arlington Maverick Marching Band. He won Best Drum Major at the Thunderhawk school for Drum Majors in Norman, Oklahoma. Mike was instrumental in the ' new " design of the band uniforms for the GHS Marching Redcoat Band designing his own Drum Major uniform his self. He perfected the goose-step entrance. dragging his plume in the dirt as he broke through the front ranks of the band. Playing saxophone was a passion for Mike and he played mostly by ear learning songs by listening to albums and composed songs on his own.

Mike was a radio DJ at KGAF for a time before becoming a police officer for the Gainesville Police Department, later going to the Denton Police Department. After leaving the profession he became a Storm Trouper for Insurance Adjusting working throughout the United States. he became a truck driver for Schneider Trucking and enjoyed seeing places he would not otherwise have had the opportunity. After serious thought, Mike decided he again wanted to help people as he did being a peace officer so he decided to become a nurse, a profession he dearly loved. Mike was forced into early retirement due to his illness of Multiple Myeloma, later developing into Myelofibrosis. He endured his illness for Ten before leaving this earthly plane to be with Our Heavenly Father.

Survivors include his daughter and son in law Shauna and chad Ressler of Southmayd, Texas granddaughters Kylie Hicks- Ressler. Halie Hicks - Ressler and Qyra Ressler all of Southmayd. Sister and brother in law Ann and Keith Porter of Gainesville and their three sons and one niece in law, sister Lynn homer and fiancee' Michael Henry Lewis of Muenster, Tx, several aunts, uncles best friends Bill King of Sanger, Tx, Roger Christian of Dallas, Tx and Sherry Kee- Lawson of Corinth, Tx.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents Walter and Jewel homer, Bertha Mae and Theodore Collard and Woodrow Heizer. You may sign the on line registry at geojcarroll.com.
