Marjorie Richardson

The angels came down and escorted Marjorie to be with the Lord January 13, 2015. Funeral service for Marjorie Richardson 91, of Gainesville are set for Friday January 16, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at the Geo. J. Carroll and Son Chapel with the Rev. John Hare officiating with burial to follow in the Fairview Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday January 15, 2015 from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Funeral Home. Marjorie.was born December 29, 1923 to Samuel Ruth Klingensmith in Bristow, Oklahoma. She was one of three children and spent most of her youth in Bristow, Oklahoma. Her father died when she was nine, years later her mother remarried and they moved to Sapulpa. She graduated from Sapulpa High School in 1942. She met George Richardson while in high school, he was eight years older, and she was hesitant to date him. World War II broke out and George was sent to Ft. Devens in Massachusetts. He sent for her and they were married on September 3, 1942.

When George was sent overseas, Marjorie returned to Tulsa and worked for Douglas Air Craft Company as one of the well known “Rosie the Riveters” until the end of WWII. They settle in Seminole, Oklahoma. They had two children, daughter, Sandra Kay born September 1946 and son, Sam Lewis July 1948. They were transferred to Chase Kansas 1951 where they lived until 1965. She was a homemaker, always involved in her children’s activities and church. She loved sewing that she learned from her grandmother who was a professional seamstress. An excellent cook, she was known for her chocolate chip cookies and her famous cinnamon rolls. Another job transfer moved them to Gainesville, TX where she lived until her death. She and George were married 51 yrs.

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Gainesville and worked as a volunteer at North Texas Medical Center earning her 5,000 hour pen. She loved going to the Senior Citizen dances at the Stanford House and area towns until her body wouldn’t let her dance anymore. She and George loved dancing. She loved playing bridge, word games and working in the yard. They had a place at Sherwood Shores on Lake Texoma where she enjoyed boating with family and friends until George’s death.

Her husband George L. Richardson, her parents Samuel and Ruth Klingensmith, and a brother Charles, who died at birth, precede her in death. Other survivors include an older sister, Lula May Engle of Pampa, TX, her daughter and son-in-law Sandi & Jim Hodnett of Plano, TX, son and daughter-in-law, Sam & Emily Richardson of Frisco and three grandchildren: Kyle Howard, Jodi Gregory and Jonathan Richardson.

In lieu of flowers, it is suggested that donations be made to the Stanford House or The Volunteer’s at North Medical Center of Gainesville in memory. You may sign the on line registry at geojcarroll.com
