Services
Keith Grice King, 57, of Gainesville died Friday, February 6, 2015 at Medical City Hospital in Dallas.
Services will be held Thursday, February 12, 2015 at 11:00 a.m., at the Geo. J. Carroll & Son Chapel with Rev. Don Yeager officiating. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. Graveside burial will be private. Arrangements are under the direction of the Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home of Gainesville.
Honorary pallbearers will be Bill King, Karl King, Dave Stark, Brian Davis, Robert Boone, Dee Blanton, Bob Chaloupecky and Rod Tyler.
History
Keith Grice King was born October 23, 1957 in Gainesville to William R. “Bill” and Margaret Jo (Lynch) King. Keith was a lifetime resident of Gainesville and Cooke County. He was the Owner/Publisher/Editor of The Weekly News of Cooke County. He was a long-time member of Whaley United Methodist Church, of Gainesville.
He graduated from Gainesville High School in 1976, where he excelled at journalism and played trombone with the marching, concert and stage bands. He served as Drum Major during his junior and senior years. In addition, he was a member of The National Honor Society. After high school, he attended Cooke County Junior College and North Texas State University.
Prior to launching The Weekly News of Cooke County, he was employed by Children’s Hospital of Dallas in their Public Relations Department. He also owned and operated King’s 1-Hour Photo for nearly 15 years in both Gainesville and Sherman. In his younger days he worked for a variety of places like New York Life, Gainesville Daily Register, Tyler and Simpson Company, and Gainesville Memorial Hospital.
He was President of the NCTC Ex-students and Friends Association, a current board member of the NCTC Foundation and VISTO where he tried to give back to the community. He was a former member of the Gainesville Downtown Merchants and the Gainesville Chamber of Commerce. He had served as Secretary of the Gainesville Optimist Club and served on the Whaley United Methodist Board of Trustees.
He loved spending time with his five grandchildren. He was an avid golfer, accomplished musician, accomplished photographer, and a life-long fan of the Dallas Cowboys. He enjoyed debating politics, listening to Chicago and watching Star Trek. He could recite verbatim many popular and obscure dialogs from his favorite movies. He played Trombone in The King-Austin trio for many years with Marcus and Jane Austin.
Survivors
Keith Grice King is survived by his mother, Margaret Jo King and her husband, Richard Stark; son and daughter-in law, Grice and Nikki King; brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Latresa King; brother and sister-in-law, Karl King and Floy Jackson; five grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, cousins, step-siblings, and extended family. He was preceded in death by his father, William R. “Bill” King Sr.
