Mildred Walterscheid Lawson

Mass of Christian Burial for Mildred Walterscheid Lawson 91, of Gainesville will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday June 22, 2015 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Gainesville, with Fr. Gary Picou officiating with burial to follow in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Muenster. Rosary will be held on Sunday June 21, 2015 at the Geo. J. Carroll and Son Chapel at 7 p.m. with visitation following at 7:20 p.m. Mildred passed away peacefully on June 19, 2015 at the Gainesville Health and Rehab Center after having battled Parkinson's for the last five years.

Mildred was born on Sunday November 11, 1923 in Muenster, Tx to Conrad ( Cooney ) M. and Rose Kleiss Walterscheid. She was the oldest of nine children. She married Leo Lawson on August 21, 1946 at the Sacred Heart Church in Muenster, Tx. and they would have celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary in August. On October 8, 1947 they were blest with the arrival of a baby girl whom they named Margaret Ann and on August 26, 1952 they were blest with the arrival of a baby boy they named Jimmy.

Mildred's first love; husband Leo, her two children, grandson and great grand children were her " Pride and Joy ". She had a special love for the elderly, love of music, especially the Accordon which she began playing at the age of 12. She also played the snare drum in the Parish's Young People's Band, directed by Father Richard Eueld.

Mildred had many hobbies: crocheting, quilting, gardening and painting. She sang and played her accordion for many weddings and dinners, she also played for dances back in the 1940's, as well as playing for 6 yrs at the County Fair and Rodeo in Gainesville. Mildred played her accordion entertaining the soldiers from Camp Howze during World War ll, as well as playing and singing at nursing homes for over 27 years.

Mildred is survived by her husband Leo of Gainesville, daughter Margaret Ann Nelson and her husband Dr. James Nelson of Georgetown, Tx, son Jimmy Lawson and his wife Christina of Krum, Tx, one grandchild Shannon Lawson Brown and his wife Keatha along with their children Zachary and Jeremy Brown all from Houston, step grandchildren Trey and Lisa Nelson of Kentucky, Beth DeVoe and family from Denton, Tx and Jeremy DeVoe and family of Lewisville, Tx. One brother Robert Dale Walterscheid and wife Linda of Muenster, sisters in law Evelyn Walterscheid, Margie Sicking both of Muenster, brothers in law James Mollenkopf and "Boots " Wilfred Sicking both of Muenster, She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Earl .Ervin, Donald, Thomas, Conrad Jr., and Herbert as well as her only beloved sister Bernice Mollenkopf. Pallbearers will be Michael Walterscheid, Mark Mollenkopf, M.L. McGowan Jr, Damion Walterscheid, Jay Mollenkopf and Donnie Lawson. Honorary pallbearer will be Pat Walterscheid.
