Memorial services for David Carroll Estes, 71, of Gainesville are set for Thursday, July 2, 2015 at 2:00 P.M. at First United Methodist Church. Pastor Don Yeager will officiate.
Dave went to be with the Lord on June 29, 2015.
David was born October 16, 1943 in Gainesville to Aubrey Joyous Sr. and Mildred Lee Greer Estes. He graduated from Gainesville High School in 1962. He attended CCJC, NTSU and SMU. Dave married Vikki Rivoire Freeman on May 4, 2002. Their love story started in 1960 when Dave was working in the hay field and saw Vikki visiting her dad. After dating through high school, then going their separate ways the Lord brought them back together again. They blended two families plus two non-DNA daughters. Dave was adored by all eight.
Dave was a proud member of the U. S. Army serving in Vietnam.
When David retired he was Regional Manager for Outside Sales covering the Southwestern part of the United States for Associated Reprographic Products, Inc. While living in Sugar Land, Texas Dave was Chairman of the Planning and Zoning Board, Chairman of the Airport Advisory Board and Chairman of Zoning Board of Adjustments. He served for 6 years as a member of the Cooke County Appraisal District and was elected as its Chairman this year.
In 2007, Dave along with Scott Robinson rejuvenated the Historic South Gainesville Neighborhood Association; he served as Treasurer, Vice President and President. Dave was also a member of the Gainesville Planning and Zoning Board and served on the Board of Directors for the Grayson County Builders Association. Dave was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
David is survived by his wife, Vikki Rivoire Estes, daughter, Gina Hammer, of Austin; step-daughters, Melissa Freeman of Dallas and Melanie Freeman of Gainesville; granddaughters, Kristina and Brooke Simons of Austin; sister, Margaret Wald of Anderson, Mo.; and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
David was preceded in death by his parents, A.J. and Mildred Estes; sister, Joyce Malinowsky and husband Walter Stanley (Millie); brothers, A. J. Estes, Jr. and Robert Neal Estes and wife Beth; and mother-in-law, Parker Rivoire.
Memorial contributions may be made to Home Hospice and First United Methodist Church.
