Mayzie Howard

July 2, 1926 — September 17, 2015

Funeral services for Mayzell McClennen Howard, 89, of Gainesville, are set for 4:00 PM Saturday, September 19, 2015 at First Baptist Church in Gainesville with Dr. Bennie Slack and Rev. J. L. Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Geo. J. Carroll and Son Funeral Home. A visitation will be held from 3:00 to 4:00 prior to the service at First Baptist Church.

Mayzie passed away Thursday, September 17, 2015 at Pecan Tree Health and Rehabilitation Center with family by her side. She was born July 2, 1926 in Wellington, TX to Carrol and Roxye McClennen.

Mayzie graduated from Prairie Valley High School. She married Harold “Hag” Howard on April 6, 1947 in Nocona, TX. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Gainesville for 58 years where she taught 4th grade Sunday school and visited young mothers for the Cradle Roll for many years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 55 years, Hag, in 2002; brother, Doyle McClennen; sister, Iva Reynolds.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Ben and Reba Howard of Pampa; daughter and son-in-law Carol and Sparky Flint of Gainesville; daughter and son-in-law Shauna and Larry Smith of Gainesville; granddaughter and grandson-in-law Riley and Brandon Gaston of San Antonio; grandson and granddaughter-in-law Michael and Gretchen Flint of Denton; granddaughter and grandson-in-law Brooke and Brad Carpenter of Denton; grandsons Tyler Howard of Pampa; Spencer Flint of Gainesville and Colin Howard of Amarillo; great grandchildren; Nolan and baby Hayden Grace Carpenter, Carson and Kate Gaston, and Mayzie Kaye Flint and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank all of Mayzie’s caregivers over the years, especially those at Pecan Tree Health and Rehabilitation Center.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, 308 E Broadway St., Gainesville, TX 76240.
