Robert Mitchell Smith

Robert Mitchell Smith, age 57, of Gainesville, Texas, passed away Tuesday, September 22, 2015 in Gainesville.

Mitchell was born July 4, 1958 in Perryton, Texas to William Robert and Elfreda Smith.

Mitchell graduated from Gainesville High School and was an avid outdoorsman, hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed riding horses and was a bull rider on the rodeo circuit. He was a Boy Scout leader and taught horseback riding and canoeing to Campfire Girls. Recently, he was a valued member of the Texas Youth Commission workforce where he was employed since 1997.

He is survived by mother, Elfreda Smith; sister, Pam Smith Nickerson; brother, William Smith and brother-in-law Ken Martin. He is also survived by nephew, Jonathan Wiginton and nieces Chelsie Clark, Taylor Easley, Hannah Smith, and Chloe Smith.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, September 26, 2015, at Whaley United Methodist Church in Gainesville.

The family requests donations in Mitchell’s memory to be made to Whaley United Methodist Church.
