John C. Stanford

Funeral services for John C. Stanford, 88, of Valley View, Texas are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 21, 2015 at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home in Gainesville, Texas with Glen Kersey officiating. Interment will follow at Valley View Cemetery. The family will received friends at the funeral home Tuesday October 20, 2015 from 6 – 8 p.m.

Mr. Stanford went to be with our Lord on October 15, 2015.

John was born September 30, 1927 in Wheelerton, Tennessee to Harvey and Euzella (Griffin) Stanford. He attended school until the eighth grade, leaving school to eventually join the Army. He entered the US Army on November 14, 1945 and served in Germany and was awarded the Victory Medal WWII and the Occupation Medal Germany and was honorably discharged on August 20, 1947. He began his career as a truck driver with the Teamsters and retired in 1984 at the young age of 57. He moved to North Texas in 2005 and he and his wife wintered in Mission, Texas with many friends. He enjoyed traveling in his RV, fishing, playing cards with friends, and his dog, Sadie. John was an active member of First Baptist Church Valley View.

Survivors include: wife of 11 years, Lena (Fields) Stanford; sons, Terry Stanford (Linda), Larry Joe Stanford (Sherrill), Micah Fields (Andrea), and Malachi Fields (Amy); daughters, Jean Corder (Richard), Jane Zarada (Robert) and Earlena Fields; fourteen grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren.

Mr. Stanford was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey and Euzella Stanford; sister, June Curd; brother, Joe Stanford; previous wife, Esther Stanford; and two children, James Everett Freeman and Linda Sue Hicks.
