Mary Alice Tibbets

Funeral services for Mary Tibbets, 82, of Gainesville, are set for 3:00 PM Monday, November 30, 2015 at the First Baptist Church with Tim Stobaugh officiating. A private burial will be held at the Fairview Cemetery. Visitation is set for 1:00 - 3:00 PM Sunday, November 29, 2015 at the Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home.

Mary was born on July 12, 1933 in Enid, OK to Cullen Root and Mattie Alice (Strickland) Hunsucker. She passed away on November 26, 2015 in Grapevine.

Mary graduated high school in 1950 in Hedley, TX. Continuing her education, she received her Bachelor's Degree from Texas Tech in 1954, and her Master's degree from Texas Women's University in 1969. She taught school in Odem and Texas City briefly before marrying Neil Tibbets. The couple moved to Gainesville in 1957 where she taught home economics and science for over 20 years.

She also taught numerous Sunday School classes, served at the Claude Jones Daycare, volunteered at Buried Treasure, and was an active member of the Women's Missionary Union at the First Baptist Church in Gainesville.

Mary is survived by her son Michael Tibbets and his wife Penny of Paris; son Martin Tibbets and his wife Susan of Newton, KS; grandchildren Jessica Powell Tibbets and her husband Ahmad of Washington, D.C.; Collin Hall and her husband Cody of College Station; Garrett Neil Tibbets of Kansas City, KS; Parker Tibbets of College Station; Libby Tibbets of Newton, KS; Maylon Tibbets and his wife Bridgette of Seattle, WA; and Mary Tibbets of Newton, KS; great-grandchildren Ashley Hall of College Station; and Ethan Hall of College Station. She is also survived by her brother Corky Hunsucker and his wife Barbara of N.C.; and sister Nancy Manny her husband Al of Lubbock.

She was preceded in death by her husband Neil Tibbets; and her parents.

Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Gibson, Charles Gibson, Robert Tuggle, Doug Selby, Sam Houston, Donny Miller, and Kyle Lyons.

Memorial contributions may be made to Claude Jones Daycare, Samaritan's Purse, First Baptist Church in Gainesville, or a charity of your choice.
